Privacy Policy
What data we keep when you use Dare, why, where, for how long and what rights you have over it.
Last updated: 29 September 2026
In short
- We keep only what Dare needs in order to work: the phone number you sign in with, and your profile, photos, dares and conversations.
- Your profile, photos and conversations are stored on servers in the European Union, in Belgium.
- We do not sell your data, there are no ads, and we do not use software that tracks your activity for advertising or analytics.
- Photos are checked automatically, to stop explicit nudity and illegal content.
- Others see your profile, but not exactly where you are: only an approximate distance, in kilometres.
- You can delete your account at any time, in the app. Along with it, we delete your profile, photos, dares and conversations.

1. Who we are
Dare Dating (“Dare”, “the app”) is provided by MAFLOMARIUS SRL, with its registered office at Str. Lotrioara nr. 11, Sector 3, București, Romania, unique registration code (CUI) 36663373 (“we”). We decide how and why your data is used, so we are its controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679, “GDPR”).
For any question about your data, write to us at uppdare@gmail.com.
2. Where this policy applies
This policy applies to the Dare Dating app for Android and iPhone and to the website https://daredating.app. It forms part of our Terms and Conditions.
3. What data we keep
Data you give us
- Account data: the phone number you sign in with. If you also link a Google account, we keep its e-mail address, so that you can sign in with it too.
- Profile: your first name, date of birth (from which we work out your age), gender, who you want to meet, the age range and distance you search within, your “about me” text and up to 6 photos.
- Dares: the selfie taken for each Dare, the question you ask and the answer you get, as a selfie or in writing (Truth).
- Conversations: written messages, photos, voice messages, answers in the “True or false?” game and the status of the Daredevil game.
- Your lists: the people you have added to your favourites, the people you have skipped with “Not now”, the people you have blocked and the conversations that have ended.
- Reports: when you report someone, the reason you choose and anything else you write.
- Messages to us: the subject, the message and the address where you want our reply. When you write to us from the app, we automatically attach your account's phone number, so we know who we are replying to.
Data the app collects
- Location: if you allow it, the app finds out where your phone is while you are using it, to work out the distance to other people. You can also choose a city manually. We do not track your location when the app is closed.
- Notifications: a code for your phone, issued by Google or Apple, which we use to send you notifications, if you accept them.
- App verification: a signal from Google (Play Integrity) or Apple (App Attest) that requests come from the genuine app, not from another program.
- Server logs: what happened and when (for example “dare sent”, “photo checked”), with the account ID. We do not record message text, photos or phone numbers in the logs.
- The language in which you use the app.
Data from others
- Reports and blocks concerning you made by other users.
- The selfies, questions and messages others send you, which end up in your conversations.
When you write to us from the website
- Your name, if you give it, your e-mail address, the subject and the message, so that we can reply to you.
What we do not keep
- We do not ask for identity documents and we do not keep biometric data. The check that a face can be seen in a selfie is done only on your phone; nothing from it is sent or kept.
- We do not read your phone's contacts, we do not use advertising or analytics software, and we do not build an advertising profile of you.
4. Why we use it and on what basis
| Why | What data | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| To create your account and let you sign in | your phone number, your Google account's e-mail | performance of the contract (the Terms) |
| To show you the right people and show you to them | your profile, location, preferences | performance of the contract; your explicit consent for sensitive data |
| Dares, conversations and games | selfies, questions, messages, photos, voice messages, answers | performance of the contract |
| Automatic photo checks | profile photos, selfies, photos in conversations | our legitimate interest, and that of our users, in stopping explicit nudity and illegal content; legal obligations |
| Community safety: reports, blocks, suspensions | reports, the reported conversation, account data | legitimate interest in protecting users; legal obligations |
| Notifications | the notification code | your consent, given on your phone |
| Protecting the service from bots and abuse: daily limits, app verification | integrity signals, logs, daily counters | legitimate interest in keeping the service safe and working |
| To reply when you write to us | your message, your address, the account's phone number | legitimate interest in replying to you; performance of the contract |
| To comply with the law and respond to the authorities | data lawfully requested | legal obligation |
Where we rely on legitimate interest, you have the right to object (see Your rights). Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time, without this affecting what happened before.
The profile fields are needed for the app to work: without your date of birth we cannot check that you are over 18, and without at least one photo your profile does not appear in anyone's deck. Location and notifications are optional; without location, the deck cannot show distances.
Your consent, item by item
| What | How you give it | How you withdraw it |
|---|---|---|
| Your gender and who you want to meet | by tapping “I agree” in the separate window when you create your account | delete your account |
| Your phone's location | the permission your phone asks for | turn it off in your phone's settings or choose a city manually |
| Notifications | the permission your phone asks for | turn them off in your phone's settings |
5. What others see
- Your profile: your first name, age, gender, “about me” text, photos and an approximate distance from them, in whole kilometres. To calculate it, other people's apps receive a position rounded to about one kilometre, never your exact location.
- Photos: before they leave your phone, the app removes the hidden details every phone writes into a photo: where it was taken, the phone model and the time.
- Search by name: anyone can find you by your first name, within the distance they choose, if you match what they are looking for.
- Dares: the person you dare sees your selfie and your question. Your answer goes only to the person who dared you.
- Conversations: only the other participant sees what you write and send. Photos with the lock cannot be seen until you open them; those with the flame disappear once the other person has seen them.
- Civil Mode: while it is on, you no longer appear to anyone in the deck or in searches, and your rounded position is no longer sent to anyone.
- Blocking: someone who has blocked you no longer sees you, and you no longer see them.
Anything you send to someone can be copied by them, for example with a screenshot. We cannot control what others do with what you have sent them, so only send what you are comfortable with them seeing.
6. Photo checks and automated decisions
Before it reaches anyone, every profile photo, every selfie and every photo in conversations goes through an automatic check, carried out by the image analysis services of Google (Cloud Vision) and Amazon (Rekognition). They look for explicit nudity and violent content. A photo that fails the check is deleted and reaches no one. These services do not recognise people and do not keep the photos.
Texts (questions, answers, messages) are checked automatically against a list of offensive words.
An account reported by several users may be put on hold automatically until we review it. If we reject one of your photos or put your account on hold and you think we got it wrong, write to us: a person on our team will take another look.
We do not calculate a score for you and we do not make any other automated decisions about you.
7. Who we share data with
We do not sell or rent out your data. The following providers use it on our behalf, and only for what we ask of them:
- Google (Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC): the servers where the data is stored (Firebase: accounts, database, files, functions), notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging), app verification (App Check, Play Integrity), signing in with Google and photo checks (Cloud Vision).
- Amazon Web Services (Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL): photo checks (Rekognition), in Ireland.
- Apple, on iPhone: notifications and app verification (App Attest).
- Your phone's map provider (Google on Android, Apple on iPhone): when you choose a city manually or the app shows you the city you are in, your phone gets the name of the place from this provider.
We may also share data with the authorities, when the law requires us to or to protect someone from serious danger, and with a buyer, if the company or the app changes owner; in that case, we will let you know.
8. Data outside the European Union
Your profile, photos and conversations are stored on Google servers in Belgium. Some Google services (accounts, notifications, photo checks) run on servers in several countries, including the United States. These transfers are protected by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, under which Google is certified, and by the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
9. How long we keep it
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Your account, profile, photos, lists | as long as you have your account. We delete them when you delete your account. |
| The selfie for a dare | until the dare expires unanswered or, if it is answered, for as long as the conversation exists. |
| Conversations and what is in them | until one of you deletes their account. Messages with the flame burn once the other person has seen them, and unread ones after 24 hours. |
| Unsent messages | are deleted immediately. |
| Photos that fail the check | are deleted immediately. |
| Reports and data about rule breaches | up to 2 years after the case is closed, or longer if the law or an investigation requires it. |
| Messages to us | 2 years from the last reply. |
| Server logs | 30 days. |
| The notification code | until you sign out or delete your account. |
10. Your rights
You have the right:
- to find out what data we hold about you and to get a copy (the right of access);
- to correct it, in the app or by asking us;
- to erase it: delete your account in the app, under App Settings → Delete account, or write to us (see Delete your account);
- to ask us to use it less (restriction of processing);
- to receive it in a format you can take elsewhere (data portability);
- to withdraw your consent: for your gender and who you look for, by deleting your account; for location and notifications, in your phone's settings;
- to ask for an automated decision to be reviewed by a human.
The right to object. You can object at any time to our use of your data based on our legitimate interest, on grounds relating to your situation.
How to exercise them
| What you want | How |
|---|---|
| To correct your profile | in the app: Edit profile and Adventure Settings. We correct your date of birth for you, on request. |
| A copy of your data | write to us; we will send you a file with your profile, photos, dares and conversations. |
| To stop appearing to anyone | turn on Civil Mode or delete your account. |
| To delete your data | App Settings → Delete account, or write to us. |
| To object or ask for restriction | write to us and tell us what it concerns. |
Write to us at uppdare@gmail.com, from the address linked to your account or giving your account's phone number, so that we know it is you. We reply within one month at most; if the request is complex, we may extend this by two more months, letting you know. Requests are free of charge, except those that are manifestly unfounded or excessively repetitive.
If you are not happy with our reply, you can complain to the Romanian data protection authority (ANSPDCP, www.dataprotection.ro) or to the authority in the country where you live, for example the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos in Spain.
11. How we protect it
Data travels encrypted between your phone and the servers, and it is encrypted on Google's servers. Only the genuine app can talk to our servers, and everyone's access is limited to what they are allowed to see. The number of actions per day is limited, to stop bots.
No system, however, is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee that your data will never be accessed without permission, but we promise to let you know, as the law requires, if something happens that puts you at risk.
12. Adults only
Dare is only for people who are at least 18 years old. Your date of birth is set when you create your account and cannot be changed afterwards in the app. If we find out that an account belongs to a minor, we delete it.
13. Cookies and your phone's storage
The website https://daredating.app does not use cookies and does not load anything from other companies. The app keeps in your phone's storage only what it needs in order to work, for example which notifications you have already opened. We do not use tracking, advertising or analytics software.
14. Changes to this policy
When we change something important, we will let you know in the app before the change takes effect. The date of the last update is always at the top of this page.
